I hate to say it but...
everything (yes, including safari) seems snappier. Yeah yea, I know an EFI update shouldn't affect other things but hey, I'm not complaining. And no, I'm not noticing a speed increase due to restarting the computer. I do that at least once a day (usually) to hop into windows for stuff. One quick question; my startup "dong" hasn't been happening for a couple of days. Any ideas on why?

I hope iWeb has some sorta 3D text rendering.
Please, let it happen since no other program lets you do it in 3 easy steps.

Maybe he'd feel fine about seeing his scripts for next week's shows pilfered and sold for profit, and put on the internet tomorrow so that other laugh-merchants can copy his material in the meantime.
Its fair game if his stupid enought to get drunk at a bar with his scripts and lose it there. U apple fangirls need to get off ur koolaid for a moment, think about how you would react if this happened to anyone other then apple. Let say microsoft. And they overeact by bashing the guys door n taking all his stuff even after the item has been returned? Ya exactly u guys would be crying bloody murder. But since its apple they've done nothing wrong...
Dont get me wrong i love apple products, have ipods, had all the gens of iphones and i'm planning on getting a macbook pro and ipad this summer, but that doesn't make me blind and think everything apple does is good.

A net reduction?? Time to invest in a calculator there Chris. Driving your electric car does not cause a reduction carbon levels.
Although your mention of waste heat is an interesting one. Modern gasoline engines are about 33% efficient. Meaning 33% of the energy produced by the engine is in the form of kinetic energy - motion to propel the car. The remaining 67% is lost as exhaust emissions, and waste heat.
I did work it out. But you only did half of it. So 67% of the carbon in gasoline is wasted as heat. Most of it going out the tail pipe
Now assume you burn coal, convert that to electric power and use that to charge the car. I'll claim that waste heat in that process is less than 67%
But it's actually better because we are not 100% on coal. We use natural gas, hydro and even wind and solar. So all considered the electric car is much better. In the North East they use a lot of hydro power so a car there really is clean.
Next you have to look at the 20 year life of the car. The electric car will get cleaner every year as they slowly clean up older power plants. The gas car will always be a gas car. If you think about how much carbon is used over 20 ears the electric car look even better (depending on how fast they clean of power plants)

And a lingual question - why the use of the word 'prefecture' all the time? As in Chiba prefecture, why not just Chiba? Isn't it unecessary, like saying 'Caifornia state' or 'Los Angeles city/county' all the time?I believe that most if not all of the prefectures are named after their capital, so using the term helps define the difference between the city and its surrounding area.

Awww I'm getting a MacBook on the 21st of January, what if iLife 07 is announced on the 22nd ? :(
They'll likely slip an extra disc in the package and you'll install iLife '07 separately.

Is this a typical url for apple.

There was a mention of it tapping into the technologies already in Snow Leopard as part of the demo, so I would expect it to run on at least 10.6. Forcing everyone to upgrade to Lion in order to use FCPX doesn't seem at all likely.
Yes, FCPX is using tech already existing in SL, but we don't know what new underlying tech it uses. For instance, one thing they didn't mention is anything about QuickTime. Some expect that they using the AVFoundation framework being introduced to Lion. If so, they would have to bake it into FCPX to allow installation on SL, or supply an upgrade to SL with this new functionality, likely as part of a ProKit Update via Software Update. The simpler solution, especially for maintenance, is simply to require you to upgrade to Lion which will have AVFoundation, not to mention, other new tech.
The reason I'm not 100% behind requiring Lion is because asking so many to upgrade from SL seems a bit extreme to me too. It would slow down adoption of FCPX because so many users can't quickly move forward when they depend on other software & hardware. Still, I wouldn't put that requirement past Apple.
EDIT: In this video (http://vimeo.com/22329493) at about 4:14 the guy says 'leveraging the best of Snow Leopard'. That is an indicator that SL will be supported.

Man, I remember this crap in high school. I hooked up my laptop on a school switch and upon obtaining an IP address, the entire district's network went black. Whoops.
My guess, based on such an experience, is they don't know how to react to such a slick piece of technology. Instead of asking questions, keeping an eye on you, the school took a defensive stance: no computer, no problem. ;)
If you are college-bound, poster, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how that attitude changes and your MBA is instead embraced as a necessity in higher education.
Best of luck!

That makes sense, but since the 26th is a Tuesday doesn't that mean that it may ship on the day of the announcement? Don't stores usually get shipments on Tuesdays? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not a big surprise here:confused:
I am more excited to see the numbers between ATT and Verizon when iPhone 5 launches this summer. I think there may be more VZW folks holding out for 5 that didn't jump ship on 4
There will be no iPhone 5 this summer.

It's good that you apologized before giving us all this misinformation!
Apple in fact offers some of the CHEAPEST rackmount servers. That's why they were used for the Virginia Tech cluster remember!!
Go to Dell's page, I just customized one of their PowerEdge 2950's to be EXACTLY the same as the Xserve (except for the OS) and here's the diff:
Dell PowerEdge 2950
$6,749.00 - $1000 because it's over $5000
so... $5749 (just the fact that they can take $1000 off if you're spending over $5000 shows how much extra they are charging customers!)
Dual Core Intel Xeon, 4MB Cache, 3.00GHz, 1333MHz FSB
Operating System Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition,Includes 5 CALs
Additional Processor
Dual Core Intel Xeon 5160, 4MB Cache, 3.00GHz, 1333MHZ FSB
Memory
1GB 533MHz (4x256MB), Single Ranked DIMMs
Riser Card Riser with 3 PCIe Slots
Primary Hard Drive
80GB, SATA, 3.5-inch, 7.2K RPM Hard Drive
Primary Controller
PERC 5/i, x4 Backplane, Integrated Controller Card
Apple Xserve
$4,798.00
Two 64-bit 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors
1.33GHz frontside bus and 4MB shared L2 cache per processor
1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 ECC fully buffered DIMM)
80GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive1
Built-in ATI Radeon X1300 graphics with 64MB RAM
Mac OS X Server 10.4 Unlimited-Client Edition
So go back to your mummy and cry! At a fraction of the price the Xserve is actually a better machine because I could not get 667Mhz DDR2 for the Dell! The Dell also has no graphics card!
This is not including the fact that Apple gives substantial discounts if you order a stack of these with a RAID!
So when you say 'Dells'... be very specific!!!
Rackmount Dells with Woodcrest Xeons (just like the Xserve) are a LOT more expensive than just some Dell server that is apparently 1/5 of the price of the Xserve.
It is a MYTH that Dell is cheap! Stack them side-to-side with Apple on any level and their machines are generally either the same price or more expensive than Apple's.
Our company was buying Dell servers when I came to work there. Between 2002 and we replaced 2 motherboards and FOUR backplanes. If you have never had a backplane failure, it is ugly. The SCSI controller cards plug into it. When it goes, your data looks like a bunch of smiley faces looking back at you. Dell was very quick to replace our failed hardware, and even faster to apologize. We only have one of the original 13 Dell servers left. I will not buy another. Add that to your TOC.

Many people seem to worry about the touchscreen thing. How about the apple remote then? Front Row works fine with it (it's still painfully slow but you get my point...). I can see a widescreen video iPod with those (existing) radio remote headphones (with the same controls as the apple remote and the shuffle) that you use just as you use front row. Add an infrared port so you can use the apple remote when your iPod is connected to a TV.
The only downside would be you can't really scroll well... maybe they'll come up with a small-sized clickwheel (basically the apple remote control, except that the outer ring can be used to scroll just like on the big clickwheel).
This may have been said (a few times) before: what if this rumored iPod video device actually works hand-in-hand with the iTV? Meaning, the iPod video could stream content to the iTV (as well as the iTV getting content from your Mac) AND also act as a remote (of sorts) for your iTV?
That might be neat...

It's the same here at the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign, particularly in the computer science department. Powerbooks, MacBooks and MBP's everywhere :) - and while I heard a lot of Mac hate, even from myself, a few years ago - that's almost completely evaporated.
We also just got a second (well a real) Apple Store/resaler - and for only being a 10x10' store, I rarley see less than 4-5 people in there browsing.
Hey, I've been to the Illini Apple Center. Nice place but a bit small. I graduated a few years ago but still have my student ID. I show them and I get the discount. Actually, the first time I purchased something there I brought a friend 'cause he's still a student but they didn't even ask for ID.

I guess iPhone 5 will be coming out abit later. :(
Yep! I think Apple nailed itself on this one, it they arent gonna come out with iPhone 4 this summer, this will be a way to increase sales until then. Besides, its like the Wii getting a new color and everybody goes crazy for it bcus its the first time they've done it.
So what will happen? I guess its just avoiding competition, last year you guys remember all those Android phones coming out? Evo 4G, Galaxy S, Droid Incredible? By moving it they'll have more room during the holidays, iPhone is the new iPod these days.

Only question. Why?
Some say Apple need to buy Netflix. Have those of you even considered what Netflix charges for monthly streaming?
$8
Apple will never let customers eat that much for so little. The day Apple buys Netflix, DVDs would stop, and streaming would go up to $30 a month.
Promised.
No point to buy it if company is restricted only to North America. Waste of money if on long run Apple will eat that anyway.
