Maybe the 7 inch version is coming.... The iPad Slate..... :-)

I wouldn't dismiss this rumor completely, albeit the likelihood of it actually happening seems very slim. On the other hand, I remember in the months leading up to the iPad launch :apple: had secured trademark rights for the words "iPad" and "Slate" by way of two different "shell" companies. Does anyone remember that? Yes, we obviously know that one of those trademarks is currently in use and it's very likely there aren't any plans to use the other (Slate) trademark at all. Given :apple: have yet to use it, it's feasible that said trademark could be used in conjunction with the iPod namesake and thus we could see an "iPod Slate" this fall. That could be the rumored iPad 3 in smaller form factor (bigger than iPod Touch yet smaller than iPad). Just a hunch.

Why not buy a new mac mini for a few hundred more?

Because any G5 will sodomize a Mini in graphics performance.

How is the Mac mini not expandable?
By definition of its design. The only piece of hardware than can be changed by the user is the amount of ram.

The dual core processor alone is worth the extra $. What can you expand on a G4 or G5 that you can't expand on a mini?
Hard drives, video card, optical drive, add-on cards, more than 8GB ram and the ability to connect more than one display.

You even have the possibility to flash Nvidia 7800 cards (the most powerful you can get for the G5)
That is false information. The X1900 is over 25% faster in every category.

As noted in our forums (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12384605&postcount=230), YouTube user machineurs has posted a pair of videos (1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-77beFICSlI), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAXL7L9fToQ)) showing most of yesterday's Final Cut Pro X sneak peek (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/12/apple-demos-final-cut-pro-x-at-nab-2011/). The introduction took place at the Final Cut Pro User Group Network SuperMeet held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters' NAB Show 2011 in Las Vegas.

While the videos are not the professionally-produced broadcasts created by Apple for its higher-profile media events, they are of fairly high quality with consistent views of the slides and action on stage and solid audio quality.

Final Cut Pro X is set to launch in June and will be available through the Mac App Store for $299. Information on new versions of the other applications in the Final Cut Studio suite will be released in the future.

Personally, I wish they would have just made the old one smaller...I think the old one being like a jump drive/mp3 player was pretty handy. Really besides the size and shape there is nothing new here...Too bad.
Same... I'm glad I have my little flash/mp3 player. I've used it many many times allready. Because I allways have my shufflewith me, and draging around a little dock thing isn't really handy to me.

Kinda sucks they took away the 512 model, scrolling through 200+ songs doesn't sound like it would be fun. I get annoyed with my 512 sometimes(though I absolutely love it deerly) scrolling. I will be buying the new nano just for podcasts i think.

Apple has its hand full for the rest of the year:

    iPhone 5 in the Fall...

Converting all their consumer computers to Intel Sandybridge...

(and removing the optical drive.... ;) did I just say that?)

I can't believe there are people out there dumb enough to buy one of these when a new iPhone is, by all indications, probably less than 5 months away.

i dont get why this is "dumb" some people have been wanting it and waiting for it . some people might have a cracked screen on a 3gs or broken phone and maybe want this one. just cuz it dosent suit your case dosent mean its dumb for everyone else. by all means dont get the iphone in white and go troll on the iphone 5 rumor pages

Have you actually used the Vista RC builds? Hardly half-assed.

In any event, this will probably mean that in January that Vista will be a pretty solid system. Microsoft will be able to find and fix issues found during the business rollout, so that the January release can be "service pack 1", or at least contain a patch rollup.

While I don't doubt that in Jan it will be relatively solid and that both MS and Apple both update new OS's relatively soon afterwards, I do doubt your optimism on the the business launch. Generik's point on the timing allowing MS to say that they met their license obligations is more likely.

The majority of businesses aren't going to be implementing Vista this year. For many, it's the peak of their year's trade and their IT embargos are probably already a week or so away. No way any new OS is going into those environments. Aside from that, Windows is so pervasive and in major companies, so customised, that it's going to take a while for IT to test that the final build does actually work and doesn't have the security holes. Until late our company was routinely wiping XP from newly purchased PCs and loading Windows NT. It's only in the past year that a small majority of machines in the office are running XP

guess you haven't seen the pictures i put up in the Macrumors Pics!! Thread LoL.....

the way the gauges work is weird, smallest is 20, but your most common is 18, the lower the number the bigger the size. its weird, i know. i can't squirt anything through my labret, its only a 14.... maybe if it was 12 or bigger. so 2 would be a bit more than double what i have now...

here is what a quick search turned up Linky (http://www.tribalectic.com/SizingInfo.asp)

A word of caution on gauge size and nipple piercing. Smaller gauges may have eye appeal, but in "play" they can be hazardous. Think of a a cheese or butter slicer (the thin wire on a handle). Heard and seen more than a few instances of accidents happening.

We still have a 2004 20" Power G5 iMac that is my wife's primary home computer. It's been dead reliable for all the years we've owned it, and was my primary iTunes Library machine until just a few months ago. It's still used daily for light-duty stuff: web browsing, email, word-processing, and as a Citrix client so my wife can connect to her School's systems (she's an administrator at a High School). It works fine for all that sort of stuff.

...Everyone has a TV. Everyone NEEDS a TV. Everyone LOVES their TV. Not everyone needs a cellphone. Not everyone LOVES a cellphone.

Cellphones have become a burden on society. Why do we need to be intouch every second of the day? We don't. Cellphones are the only form of technology out there that actually causes grief for other individuals. Think about it, how many times has the movie you are watching, the dinner you are trying to enjoy or the church mass you are trying to worship at been interrupted by the "lovely" little blaring chime of a cellphone? Or even better yet, that person picking up the call and talking on it as if the person on the other end of the line is more deaf than Helen Keller. How many times has someone cut you off in traffic or almost hit you, only to get a look at them to see that they are gabbing away on their phone, oblivious of the fact they almost killed you?

Gee, maybe I'm weird, because I actually DON'T own a TV, but I DO own a cell phone. I think the cell phone serves a much greater purpose to any society than a television. Let's see..call people I love and care about, or waste my brain watching the garbage on cable. Hmm.

    Just my 2 cents.

Wow, I've never heard of this issue - and I haven't noticed it on my setup.

I have a NAS that, upon booting my iMac, gives me a "can't connect" error, because it's trying to mount that volume before network connectivity is established. I have to click the share's icon to get it to mount - but then it stays mounted. *shrug*

It mostly only effects larger networks moving big files on a mish mash of hubs or routers with recycled lengths of blue cable in a building with not very clean power.

So in other words your average office full of graphic and other design professionals. Or Apples strong hold business market.

The corporate savages also employ 50,000 people and have enabled 100s of app developers use their forum to create new ideas that employ more people. Same goes for Foxconn, who without Apple's contract, would not have the resources to hire the thousands of Chinese people to give them even the meager salaries they do receive.

Shame it's so cost prohibitive to hire people in America to do the job. Could have avoided the whole situation.

..and as a result of shipping heavy industry overseas, the U.S. is now bankrupt.

Will pirates be able to use this technology? I'm not sure how successful the eye tracking will be when using an eye patch.
Arrr, the beauty of this is that it works for people who only have vision in one eye - Google "Wiggle Stereoscopy". Presumably it be head tracking rather than eye tracking.

But will me hook get caught on the objects when I try and drag the screen?

How about a mini iPad in the 7 inch range coming this year?

There is a good chance of a new gaming iPod touch this fall but it won't be 7 inches. It will have to be under 6 inches to be pocketable. Here is a good blog post on this subject.

Many folks on this forum seem to use and rely on iDVD. I'm in that group.

I know that the world is much larger than this forum, and therefore the percentage of iDVD users to all Mac users is in fact very small. But...

If Apple does drop iDVD it will be another example of blantant disregard for customer's requests.

This may be obvious for many, but for me, it will be the final confirmation that Apple has moved on from the "digital hub" strategy of 1998 - 2007.

Remember when they made all this cool software to help sell Macs? With iPhone and iPad success this is simply not required any more.

I dont think this is right - they're not moving away from the digital hub, they're recreating a different digital hub - Apple isn't necessarily thinking how do we facilitate the creation of dvds so people can make home videos and share them with friends - they're going to the root - what's the best way of distributing videos - right now, upload to the internet is much faster and much more widely used then DVD burning.

Don't forget that in 1998 they dropped the floppy and people had the same attitude you do now. It's great being an Apple customer, they are on the frontline of new technology but they do drop fading technology first too. Pretty soon the usb drive itself will be dropped from the macs as well - what will be the alternative? idk - for flash drives maybe phones will be portable flashdrives connected through wifi or something - by the time they get rid of the superdrive all apple software will be either download or usb stick - no need - people will complain - 7 years later compaq computers wont have them either and we'll be laughing at them for finally catching up although they will then be behind. I have nothing against iDVD but like i said earlier it wont disappear, support will still be available for 3 years or so and iDVD will not disappear from your apps.

Anyway my point is i don't think apple is ignoring their user base - Steve Jobs said at one point "It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them."

In other words, they might be replacing the software with something that does that job better, and the job is not creating DVDs, the job is distributing media in a beautiful way - maybe we will see the an app in iLife that was rumored before about making something like the Movie extras, with menus and other content - similar to iDVD but then its to upload or stick somewhere else or on your apple tv or on your iphone or ipad - i don't know, i don't work for apple - that's why i pay them, to think for me and show me what i want, cause i don't know. I have ideas as to where things might end up but i really don't know for sure.

    My 2 cents.
