I saw and got my hands on a possible prototype IMac that had a touchable screen and a smug free screen. It also had the earlier uncoded virtual keyboard in the Lion OS. though it was only a prototype but a very realistic one for production. I believe it to be the IMac I and my father both got our hands on earlier this year.:apple:

Ah.... I cry foul. Not real at all.

We've alreaddy seen threads entitled "Waiting for Santa Rosa" though, I think this will be a never ending cycle under intel. :(

Yeah, and forget the 8 core Cloverton... now we're waiting on 16 cores with Tigerton: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4659

It sure beats Motorola/IBM's PowerPC slow update schedule. ;)

Here, I was beginning to wonder if I'd have to keep my 2G iPhone working until iPhone5 came out.

How did I become Plutonius' most-likely-a-ww vote on the very first day? I've been a WW before, and a Special before, making me anything but a Villager would be pretty obvious.

In Australia, I'm getting the 15-inch with 2GB, 2.33GHz, 160GB HD, shipping on/before 1 Nov, arriving to Brisbane on/before 8 Nov. I couldn't justify spending an extra $A818.40 (edu price) for an extra GB of RAM nor an extra $A140.80 for the 200GB HD. Reviews of the 200GB HD at tomshardware.com say performance is very average, and I would have felt about queasy about such bleeding-edge HD technology.

I agree about the memory, but IMHO the 200GB is a no brainer. But then I like all my multimedia, you can't have too much space.

It has been brought to attention that Apple is encrypting certain parts of the OS kernel. Does this have any bearing in this discussion or it is only to make piracy of the OS more difficult?

I believe it's primarily to thwart piracy. Here's a really good in-depth technical article on the subject:

To become a relevant team, we need to reach 250k units per day, almost double the current rate. We need 70 more iMacs/MacBooks or 5 8-core systems.

We have reached 200k PPD, nice power up...
Keep going, we need more bigadv users...

Lies, someone always says this with every update. The animations are still often laggy.

He/she said that the app opens faster, not that the animation bug has been fixed.

You're reaching pretty hard there. Apple makes consumer electronics that I enjoy using everyday. They're creating new markets and innovating existing ones. I don't understand how you can think that enjoying that is a bad thing.

I don't think that enjoying the products is a bad thing at all. I think I provide a good analogy. I never head a non investing bragging about how much money the electric company makes or how happy they were that their health insurance company had a record year. I just find it strange.

Here we have a PDA device - virtual keyboard, gesture recognition, etc. with a strong possibility of direct connection to the internet (sans computer).

Imagine your in a cafe with friends, some one says hey have you heard this song...? you go online (itunes) right there (wifi) access the song and load it up to your device - pop it into a new play list, rate it etc.

Apple can remove a big barrier of complexity (computer) by making it all in one simple ipod-like device. So there is pobably an entire market strategy with itunes store, etc that extends from this new device. i just bet ya...

With eBooks this type of device would be awesome for corp. training and documentation access, even better for military type applications, mechanical work, and combat conditions -- a bastion for podCasters.

AND the Airport has a cheap harddrive in it that watches internet access and downloads locally the most often popular sites, and monitors them for change, to GREATLY speed access and low connection band width requirements.

I also told Apple to build this.

Of course this would have to catigorize sites to do this, so it can avoid things better kept live, and screen for porn, this would be the hard part but this IS just a better firewall

I'm sure some of that is going to the music companies.

Take heart, though. This might not be bad news. What if we learn that this is a part of MobileMe and it's MobileMe that's changing to $20 per year?

Impossible? I dunno, I think charing $99 per year to sync iPhone data wirelessly is impossible for Apple to maintain. This may be their chance to gracefully deflate that balloon.

Is anyone on here going to delete all the music on their iPhone to be able to pay $20 per year to regain a subpar stream of there very own music? And at a detriment to their limited data amount? Am I missing something??

Again, this may be wishful thinking, but I can imagine Apple strong-arming carriers into exempting this service from their data-cap-measuring systems. Apple sure would like that. Do they have the power to make it happen, though? Maybe.

Did ye all not read the report. The whole point is that it is a "Proximity sensor" . That it can detect your gestures while "spaced away" from the ipod. This would be no big deal if it required rubbing your greasy fingers all over the display!! Yes and it states "a touch screen display" "For multifunctional handheld devices".

"The method includes sensing an object spaced away and in close proximity to the electronic device. The method also includes performing an action in the electronic device when an object is sensed." Meaning when I'm close to touching the darn thing do/show this when this is happening on screen.

    Did you read it?
    http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/part_1_apple_files_proximity_detector_in_handheld_device_patent_application/

    EDIT: Still not "touchless" either....
"For example, when using a touch sensing device along with a proximity detection system, advanced gestures may be performed that combine proximity gestures along with touch gestures."
